Agency Statement Regarding Unsafe Driving Conditions on Grant Line Road

Southeast Connector Expressway Grant Line Road

Recent weeks have brought renewed concerns about the unsafe driving conditions along Grant Line Road, particularly with the recent and unfortunate fatality that occurred between Douglas Rd and White Rock Rd in February.

The Capital Southeast Connector JPA (“Connector JPA”) is tasked with planning and constructing a new expressway that reconstructs Grant Line Road, called the Southeast Connector Expressway project.

This section on Grant Line Road will be significantly improved as part of our project. The Connector project will address the safety concerns by reconstructing the road to meet current design standards, more visible and better signage, and widening the road to accommodate the increase in traffic.

Our agency was recently awarded $3 million from the California Transportation Commission, which aims to improve the portion of Grant Line Road where a high volume of collisions occurs today. We hope to receive another $25 million award for the same purpose.

Modernizing this dangerous section of Grant Line Road is a priority we will undertake as soon as sufficient funding makes it possible, which could be as soon as 2027.

When the entire Southeast Connector Expressway project is completed, it will feature a surface that should long outlast its existing counterpart, have better lighting, straightened curves where fatal accidents now occur, and safer intersections for adjoining roads.

Today, the maintenance of Grant Line Road between Douglas Boulevard and White Rock Road is the joint responsibility of the Sacramento County Department of Transportation and the City of Rancho Cordova Department of Public Works. Residents can contact them by calling 311 or visiting:

Public support for our funding proposals is crucial in the decision process. Residents can write letters to government officials, speak at public meetings, and recruit others who share your concerns to do the same.

You can receive news regarding the expressway’s progress by signing up for updates by email. Please consider attending one of our quarterly board meetings to let us know more about your concerns or to ask any questions you might have. Our next meeting is May 31st.
