Grant Line Road Safety Upgrades Now Being Designed

Grant Line Road Safety Upgrades by Dokken Engineering and Connector JPA

A Folsom engineering firm has been selected to design plans to modernize a dangerous section of Grant Line Road notorious for serious and sometimes fatal accidents.

Dokken Engineering has been hired by the Connector Joint Powers Authority (JPA) to engineer the section of Grant Line Road between White Rock Road and Douglas Boulevard, which was the site of a deadly single-car accident as recently as last month.

The road improvement is part of the voter-approved SouthEast Connector Expressway that will link Elk Grove to the El Dorado Hills when completed, alleviating traffic congestion on Highway 50 and providing a safe flood and fire evacuation route for area residents.

"We are excited to continue assisting the JPA with this important project," said Juann Ramos, Dokken Engineering's project manager. We have the history and stakeholder relationships, and we know the intricacies needed to get the project to construction as quickly as possible."

Well-known for its expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects, Dokken Engineering was unanimously selected by a panel that included officials from Sacramento County and the City of Rancho Cordova.

The contract signing marks the commencement of the Grant Line Road Safety and Freight Mobility Project, which hopes to begin construction in 2027 as further funding becomes available

Recognizing the urgency of improvements, the JPA secured funding from the California Transportation Commission to transform the dangerous two-lane road into a well-lit 4-lane expressway with an adjacent bike trail.

Dokken Engineering has experience and history with the expressway project, having completed the environmental clearance and engineering design for the recently completed White Rock Road section of the expressway in Folsom.

"We are pleased to have Dokken Engineering's expertise focused on this section of the expressway," said JPA Executive Director Derek Minnema. "Countless wrecks will be avoided and lives will be saved once this undertaking is completed."
